Time To Pack
A Weekend in the Woods

I'm at it again, trying to cram everything into a carry-on while I hit the road and explore new places. This month, I am headed to two (separate) weekends in the woods. I am really looking forward to slow mornings, meandering hikes and evenings of laughter and board games with the family. The most important thing I pack when I go to the woods is my guitar, but this post is more about what to wear than it is about me fumbling around trying to learn John Prine songs.

I love trips to the mountains, because most cute woodsy places also have cute woodsy towns nearby, and I love to explore what mountain towns have to offer. Whether it's the Ozarks or the Rockies, mountain towns always have lots of quirky shops and usually great music at night in the least expected places. And, of course, the hiking is always top notch. With all of this in mind, I am focusing on layers and comfortable options, plus something simple to wear at night. If I am just going for a quick walk in the woods I like to wear jeans, but for longer hikes I generally wear old leggings and torn-up t-shirts with a sweater or sweatshirt layered over. (I am not one for fancy workout clothes, so I chose to skip hiking gear for this post, but always bring waterproof shoes along to the forest).  Happy traveling! R+W
